The Story

UNESCO-listed weaves at the foot of the bed.

The jamdani technique of West Bengal is on UNESCO's Intangible Cultural Heritage list. Kantha — the running-stitch tradition of layered silk and cotton — is alive in a network of women's cooperatives in the Nadia and Murshidabad districts.

These are the pieces that turn a silk bedroom from an upgrade into a story. They sit at the foot of the bed, across a reading chair, or layered as a coverlet for the warmer months.

Three Techniques

Jamdani, kantha, block-print.

— 01

Jamdani

Hand-woven on the loom with supplementary weft — the motifs appear inside the weave itself, not on top of it. Sheer, airy, transparent.

— 02

Kantha

Running-stitch embroidery over two or three layers of silk, often using recycled silk thread. Each throw shows the hand of the woman who stitched it.

— 03

Block-Print

Hand-carved wooden blocks dipped in natural dye, applied across a tussar silk base. Two motif families: heritage paisley and modern geometric.
